Looking for a used under $10k with decent mileage for my brother in law. He just needs a dependable ride at this point and not even a daily driver, just once in a while. I kbb.com'd what 2.5S Altimas usually go for and it seems an '07 would fit just under 10k, but an '06 which is a previous generation design would be only $8k. He says the less the better. Is there a reason the previous generations ('06) should be avoided? I read the wiki on the differences http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Altima and I'm always weary of first-run models ('07) because of design flaws that may take a year to get fixed.

Just want to know what you guys know about these 2 years (or generations).

07 is a lot different than the 06 actually..totally different interior etc.
I would go with an 07 if it were me, (for a base model) Same engine though. Not sure when they switched to CVT although it might be 07, or it might be a year or 2 after.

weary doesn't mean the same thing as leery and wary, btw.

DAMNIT the one time I didn't take the 10 seconds to look up the difference. I always forget and always looked it up but this time I just said fuggit.

And yes the CVT started with the '07's generation. If it's a big change I think I'd go with an '07 too. Hopefully there's not a lot of first-year bugs as known issues.
