Used 2005 G6 GT

So, this is pretty much a price check.

I'm looking to buy a slightly used 2005 Pontiac G6 GT. The one I am considering has 747 miles on it (it does have a previous owner), has power doors, windows, seats, ABS, traction control, cruise control, cd player, tilt wheel, adjustable power pedals.

Now, I know a lot of people don't like G6s. I do, so no need to come in and say, "crap car". etc.

The problem is, there isn't anywhere reliable online (such as kbb.com) that I have been able to find an approximate blue book value for this car. Kelly Blue Book does not, yet, have used values for G6s.

Anyone car to suggest what they think it's worth? Brand new, on the dealer lot, it would start at about 24,000.

Thanks!

not gonna dig on the car, but why would a car owner get rid of a brand new car with less than 1000 miles on it unless it was a piece?

I've wondered the same thing. I've been on a test drive (not this specific car, it's far away) and I was happy with the G6. I did a VIN check and it has a clean history.

Maybe the owner couldn't afford the payments or the insurance. Maybe changed his/her mind. I dunno.

OMGWTFBBQ CRAP CAR, DON'T HIT IT!!!@!$

Uh.. any idea why the guy wants to sell it with only 747 miles? Is he a Boeing freak? 😕

It's a dealer that has it. I don't know what happened with the original owner, but the car is listed and being sold as 'used'.

This is actually not too bad a car. Coworker had one, I flogged it around on a couple occasions. Engine has a lot of mid range grunt at WOT, but unfortunately, the 4 speed auto still exposes holes in the powerband. Handling is ok, no worse than say a stock accord. Interior although kind of funky looking, seems built fairly solid. Looks ok on the outside.

As for pricing, keep in mind new GM cars are often sold with heavy discounts off sticker. Look at what discounts are available for this car, factor that in, and on top of that, take 1-2K or more off. GM resale values are almost always poor so you should exploit that to the fullest.

Tons of people swap cars like shirts. I ploped down about 30K for a loaded 04 Sienna minivan and love it. A friend went out and got one of his own based on my purchase and has since had two other cars.

doesn't GM have a return policy incentive type thing going???

What I found at the dealer I went to tonight:
$1500 cash back until the end of May.
I have $150 saved up on my GM earnings... only applies to new cars.

I test drove one tonight (not the one I'm considering purchasing), but very similar options. Dealer sticker price was $24,300. So, $22,800 after cash back. Could probably get him down another $1,000, maybe more, but I didn't try since I'm not really interested in buying that one. Add tax (8% here) and other fees, and it would probably be close to $24,500 or so out the door.

The only thing I wasn't so happy with on the test drive is the way the steering feels with the electronic. It's not bad, just a lot different than how my Grand Am feels.

Carsdirect.com has the basic G6 GT in my zip code for a target price of $21,110. That's significantly lower than the sticker prices I'm seeing. Good to know!

I wouldn't give a dime over $18K

The one I'm looking at, the guy was willing to go down to the point where the total (with tax, docs, license, etc) would be $20,122 out the door with 5.5% APR. Pulling the numbers apart, the tax rate there is just shy of 8%, the car price is about $18,500.

I've actually been surprised in this thread. I expected some "WRONG FORUM"s or "NO PRICE CHECK"s but everyone has been very helpful instead. 🙂

you should rememberGM is willing to do almost anything to get it off their lots. The G6 was a complete disaster from their point of view. overadvertised, overhyped and overbuilt. you should be able to talk them far below retail price on it. espically since it's used.

That was my thought as well but most of the dealers are still refusing to come down more than about $1,000. Some not even that much. I've talked to five dealers, in two states, in the past week.

One guy I talked to in Tucson, Arizona wanted $25,900 for a used G6 GT with 7,000 miles on it. I almost choked keeping myself from laughing over the phone.

Go in, talk to the dealer, walk away.
Go in, talk to the dealer, show him other price, walk away.
Go in, talk to the dealer, tell him you don't know about the price, walk away.
Then get car for <$18K 😉

Hit up carsdirect . I have never hear anything negative about the site. You get a target price thats a fair amount above the real deal dealer cost. Not what the dealer tells you the dealer cost is and your most likley dealing with a broaker thats at a fleet manager level. The guy is there to move cars. I would have loved to have been able to do that with my last purchase.

This dealer is located near Chicago. I'm in Phoenix. We've been going back and forth on the phone. That approach is what I use for dealers locally, and I've tried a bit in Phoenix. None of them will budge under $22K for a new one in Phoenix.
