Used 2000 Ford Focus for $4,000?

2dr hatchback, automatic, 50,000 miles, 4 cylinder.

Nowhere near the top of my "want" list (in fact, I HATE 2dr small cars, hatchbacks, and I think the Focus is ugly) but my parents offered to buy it for me. A car is a car, a free car is a free car. 🙂

(Before the old folks start harping on me I never asked for a car, and I said I don't particularly need it. But I could definitely use it and if its a good bargain why not?)

I don't know jack sh1t about cars, so is it worth it?

newer Foci aren't too bad, really. They totally kick butt in autocrossing, for one thing.

Don't expect a speed demon, but you could do FAR worse for a free car.

2000 was the first model year and a wrap sheet a mile long of problems. The 2k1's worked out a lot of the kinks, and the 2k2's even less problems.

But for 4 grand and it only having 50k miles on it, sounds like a good deal.

I purchased our 2001 Focus 4-door SE last August for 6990.....its a great little car....finally broke down recently and got the windows tinted and did the whole XM headunit/tuner bit.

I wish my parents offer me a relatively new car in my younger days. I wouldn't buy a 2000 focus, but recently built focus aren't bad cars to have.

Be careful, for that price I would be worried the vehicle was totaled at some point.

Exactly. Make sure it isn't a totalled, rebuilt or salvaged title. CarFax.com will usually report this.

Considering it's only 4 years only, with an average of 12.5k miles/yr for only $4k, seems like a hot deal.
