I have a kick arse machine, but i realise that every time i play a game etc, when i finish playing and i go back to desktop, it take sooo much time to load back windows, clear cache etc..its very long, even on my big machine.(check sig)

I just for fun decide to remove the Windows XP theme and put the Windows 98 theme and...omg...no more freezing when exiting to desktop,no long pause etc.

Windows Xp require A LOT of juice to run, and i pity those who have 512meg of ram or less and USE the windows xp theme.

Dunno if this is report..but if it can help, i am glad i could help by sharing my finding

Another tip, Right click on my computer, properties, advanced, under performance click settings, untick every box except Smooth edges of screen fonts, use drop shadows for icons and use common tasks in folders, hit ok, hit ok and your done. That will also reduce ram usage some more/put less of a burden on your video card while still keeping windows looking great.

I have the exact same system as yours and mine runs just fine. Make sure you aren't running any other big programs when you play your games.

I think its because windows xp have to reload once you exit a game etc, this is why i have some slowdown

0.9999... or is that 1

As for themes, we'll it's a bit obvious it takes up more memory, same as running pointless services/applications. Can't say I have any 'lag' after exiting a game, be it HL2, Doom 3 or anything less intensive.

ALT+Double Click on My Computer, click advanced, performance settings, check adjust for best performance. or you can pick what visual crap you want to leave on. :p

oh and don't forget to disable the theme service. run > services.msc.
