I am eventually going to get the Linksys WET11, which will serve this purpose, but until I can afford to get it, I need my ps2 to access my wireless network.

I've read stuff about people using WinXP PCs as bridges and was wondering if there is something out there that I can get that will do the same for Windows98.

I have a laptop that has a wireless adaptor that connects to the wireless Linksys 4-port switch / router / access point. My office PC is directly connected to the router via cat5.

My PS2 is in another room and I need to get it onto the wireless network, now that my PS2 network adaptor came in.

So my question is : Is there a way to make the laptop (win98) simulate a bridge to my wireless network ?? THe laptop has a USB wireless adaptor, but I also have an ethernet card for it (haven't used it yet). So I was thinking of plugging in the PS2 to the ethernet card in the laptop and then using the laptop to connect to the wireless network.

What do I need to accomplish this ??

If you are a student, you might be able to get WinXP cheap through your school, in which case it would be pretty easy.

Other than that, there was a thread a few months back where somebody thought this could be done with ICS. I indicated at the time that I was skeptical, and I don't think the person ever did post whether or not their efforts were successful. But, maybe it is possible.

not a student, thought i could probably get XP through work.

But I really don't want to mess with my laptop. It's running low on drive space and I don't want to have to bother with a new OS.

I was just looking for a Win98 software add-on that I could implement to give me the bridge function.

But, if it's not out there, then I'll just have to run a 30' cable around the house. It'll be a nice surprise for the wife. :D

A cable connection is better anyway. You could always unplug it and hide it when not in use. Probably not much more hassle than hooking up the laptop would be.

I hooked up a 50' cable last night.

But it's not so easy to hide.... it goes through a couple doorways and across the dining room. Pretty ugly, but at least it works for now.

Still looking for a Win98 software solution though.

Looks like this is kinda old, a DOS bridge program.

What does PCbridge Support?
PCbridge supports Ethernet interfaces with the Western Digital WD8003E, WD8003EBT, WD8013EBT cards, and the 3Com c507 card . Starlan cards with the WD8003S and WD8003SH cards. Serial Interfaces with the standard 8250 IBM COM ports at ...

I'm gonna keep looking for a while before I try this thing. Thanks though, it's something.

Yes, the readme sounds interesting, but the files are all from 1991 and 1992! You would think there would be something out there though. Be sure to let us know if you find something that works, since this issue has come up a couple of times.
