Is it possible to dismantle an external bluray drive and plug it into a laptop? Specifically with this Samsung drive?

The idea is to buy a slim usb bluray drive, dismantle it, plug the drive itself into my laptop and put the existing dvd drive in the now empty usb enclosure. My laptop is a lenovo T430 so I know I have a 12.7mm ultrabay with an sata connector on the inside. I'm just worried that the Samsung drive will be a pure 100% usb connector, not a laptop sata connector -> usb adapter connection so I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I've checked Newegg and Amazon and googled heavily and I have been unable to find any hint as to the internal drive connector.

If it comes down to it I did find this Panasonic UJ240 and this UJ260 on Amazon as well and I might just buy one of those. I'd prefer the Samsung if I had to since the Panasonic drives are of uncertain origin, even if they say "Panasonic" on them. There may be little choice though.

So, in short, does anyone know what the internal connector is for this Samsung drive? Or know who/where I can ask to find out?

Can't you buy a standard issue slimline bluray drive, and just plug it in?. Far as I remember the T430 uses a standard slimline drive.

I could. The T430 does use a standard slimline 12.7mm sata drive with an easily removed "hook" for quick ejection on the back. I just want the option of putting the existing dvd drive into an empty usb caddy without having to purchase anything extra. I'll probably end up buying the UJ260 and buy a separate caddy if I need it, but I'm going to research my options a little more before buying.

I see. I suppose if the external enclosure is a standard slimline drive using a SATA-to-USB adaptor, I see no reason why it would not work with a different drive. All slimlines should be SATA BTW. But the question is if those drives you link to use some sort of proprietary internal connector. Its impossible to tell without disassembly, and that voids the warranty of course.

I might look at something like this. I don't know if its available in North America, but something similar should. Pretty inexpensive too.
