Use the 8GB or the 16GB?

A few weeks ago I purchased a set of 8GB (2x4) G. Skill Ripjaws on sale for $65 shipped:

Then, a week later Newegg had a deal on the 8GB PNY Optima for $46 after rebate. Not needing it, I purchased 3 sets as that was the rebate limit. Real smart.

I mainly play games and don't do anything crazy RAM intensive so was thinking the 8GB should be just fine, as I'm using 4GB now and it seems to do the job. Though, having 16GB just seems like it would feel good. My worries are it won't overclock as well and I'll have 8GB of "better" RAM just sitting there.

This will be going into an i5-2500k build with a Biostar TP67B+ board. Cooling by Corsair H50. Would like a 4.5+ ghz. overclock.

Thoughts?

Dunno what you want...you answered your own question. 16G gives you more memory but might or might not limit your overclock. If the ram ends up "just sitting there," you can always make a RAM disk for some commonly used programs.

Unless you're using the extra RAM that you're putting in as a RAMdisk, I think anything more than 8GB now(not the future) is a waste.

Don't skimp too much on a motherboard if you intend to do some overclocking. I suggest paying a little bit more and get the Extreme4 instead.

I would have but what pushed me over the edge to upgrade was the one day deal that Micro Center was running. I got the 2500k and Biostar P67 full ATX board for $229. Essentially, a $50 motherboard.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to just stick with the 8GB.
