Hey all,

I would like to build a cheap office-y PC (Word, web, etc.) using a Pentium G4560 and the Asus H110A/M.2. It uses the Intel H110 chipset. Do you know if I can use one 16GB DIMM and then add another 16GB DIMM later, or do I need to install it in pairs for this board to work? Thanks!

From the Owner's Manual:
Yes, you can add another 16 Gigs later.

  • Memory
    2 x DIMM, Max. 32GB, DDR4 2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory
Supports Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (XMP)
** Refer to www.asus.com for the Memory QVL (Qualified Vendors Lists).
    * Hyper DIMM support is subject to the physical characteristics of individual CPUs.
    * The maximum memory frequency supported varies by processor.
    * Due to Intel® chipset limitation, DDR4 2133 MHz and higher memory modules on XMP mode will run at the maximum transfer rate of DDR4 2133 Mhz.

Thank you, Billb2. I was looking at the manual but I couldn't determine if I could run it single channel. It did say about different memory sizes, but I wasn't 100% on whether you could run it on one DIMM initially.

Just be aware that you take a big performance hit running in single channel.

It would probably run the free VMware hypervisor, like the base version of ESXi 6.5 pretty much, and a few VMs on top of that.
