Use personal phones for on call?

I got into a conversation today at work about our on call phones. Right now we have dedicated on call phones, however the thought was that instead we use some kind of software to setup a virtual group and add the phones for the on call people. Ideally it would have a scheduling ability as well. Think of a distribution group for phones instead of email.

Anybody have any thoughts?

If the company wants you to use your personal phone for on call/business use, then I'd expect the company to pay for your personal phone service - or at least pay for the minutes that are used for business calls.

Yeah which I agree, but it's something that we might be able to save money by moving to that method instead of paying for the full phones.

Just an idea I had that I wanted to research a bit more on the technical side before getting into the financial side.

can you use google voice?

edit: nvm you need the scheduling abilities. you can still use google voice though, but you'd need some 3rd party software to manage the #'s and set up the proper routing/distro
