Use one firewire HDD on two computers?

I've got an external firewire drive bay. It has two ports on the back. If I hooked up a separate computer to each port, would it be functional? Would both systems be able to access the data? TIA.
 
Nope never worked for me and I even tried having 1 hooked via USB and the other Firewire...t'was a no go 🙁
 
Yes, they are networked. I was going to be burning a bunch of stuff onto DVD straight from the drive bays onto a machine it is normally not hooked up to.
