Use older cable modem or just rent for $3?

Got a Linksys cable modem which is a older version 2 which I heard has some issues but havent used it yet. I can either use it or just rent(or lease) and cable modem for only a extra $3 a month which I am sure is newer model of some brand. What would you do?

It depends. Do you pay the $3.00 a month indefinately until you discontinue service?

I would try the old one first, and make sure to update the firmware or you could just buy a new one.

Why would you ever lease something for 3 dollars a month? You realize in a little over a year you'd have bought a brand new cable modem for what they charge you?

naw just 1.0/1.1 and I only plan on using the slower speeds. Also I think it's just to rent the modem and yeah it's $3 every month for as long as I have the service.
