Saw this earlier on HardOCP and have always wondered, how much does the band get paid to get their song for a commercial?

With that much extra media exposure, I could even see it that the band would be willing to pay to get their songs out there...

Anyone in the business or know enough to answer?

This is only slightly related to your question, but I seem to recall reading that when a song is played on the radio, the person who WROTE the song receives the royalties (not the performer)

Edit: http://www.answers.com/topic/royalties
In the music industry, royalties are paid to music copyright holders and to songwriters by radio stations and anyone else who derives a commercial benefit from the copyrighted material.

So in the case of that song, the guys from Tears for Fears would receive royalties (assuming they wrote the song as your link says they did), and Gary Jules's record label would receive royalties, some of which would most likely go to Gary Jules.
