Norton Ghost 2003 version. Cloning only, don't use ghost/back up.
I prepared a new HDD with fdisk, created 6 partitions and formated. Went to the server, installed the new HDD and cloned over the servers drive. Great no problem.
Went to the next PC and it won't clone? After setting up the clone operation (identifying target and source drives) I receive the message about restarting the pc, then the DOS clone screens comes up, but wizzes right by. Can't even see the screen with the progress of the clone operation. Of course when it reboots as it should I get the failed operation warning.
All PCs use 98se, and have been cloned successfully b4.
To check that I had not fouled up with fdisk, I went back to the server and found I could clone it to other (extended/logical) partions on the new drive. Hence, I believe I have ruled out a problem with my new HDD.
I did a repair install of NG on the machine in question - no help.
I disabled the AV, no help.
I unplugged all the other drives (optical/zippy etc) thinking maybe the PSU was overloaded with the extra drive - no help.
The OS install on the PC in question appears to be less than rock-stable, it does have some difficulting in booting to the OS and takes 3 attempts (will fail and offer safe-mode as the option the first two times). Perhaps this is the problem, but in my own simplistic way I thought NG would just give me a clone of a "buggy" OS.
Since NG appears to work outside of the OS (looks like a DOS proggie loaded into ram) I am reluctant to blame the OS install for NG not working.
Hence, is it likely this a hardware problem?
Thanks,
Fern
