Hi, got a question. I got a Nexus S, I live in Quebec ( canada), my carrier is Rogers. But i going to New york for a week. we got wi-fi in the hotel room. so i want to bring my phone to read so news and play so game. But i have not taken any plan or travel package. i want to be sure my phone wont connect to any US network because Rogers will charge me. So i wonder, if i emove to sim card for the week and use it only with wifi, will it work? and will it work again when i put it back in next week ?

i never did it before. i dont want break anything.
Thank

yeah, it should work just fine. obviously, no phone calls, but other than that it will work. if you want phone service, you could actually get an at&t or tmobile prepaid sim card, assuming your nexus is carrier unlocked.

Well, T-mo won't give him 3g since Rogers uses AT&T bands. Mind you, AT&T 3g in New York is famously spotty anyway. ;)

He could also leave it in airplane mode all the time and switch wifi on and off separately.

does the nexus S allow airplane-mode independent wifi? i can't remember if my stock nexus one did or not, but i know it works in cyanogenmod

and yeah, agree about the 3g but it is nice to have a simple phone when traveling as well

That's what airplane mode is for, the use of Wifi but without the cellular radios. You just have to turn wifi back off after you turn on airplane mode.

earlier regulations wouldn't even allow wifi in-flight...i wasn't sure if it was a stock feature or something people added in to get around the limitation.
