I was just wondering if there were drivers that let you use a Wacom tablet instead of your mouse, just like a laptop touch pad. I don't want to use the pen or the mouse with the Wacom tablet.

It just seems like when you have several monitors, you're putting so much mileage on the mouse. I use a trackball and I can just flip my thumb to go across 3 screens pretty quickly, and the acceleration works OK, but I just thought maybe it would be better to use a big touch pad.

A company called Finger Works had a product called the iGesture, although they are no longer in business. If you search around I'm sure you can still find one. It's basically just a giant touchpad.

the wacom pen has electronics in it, its a little metal coil that the tablet uses to detect it. you could take a pen apart and glue it to your finger :D

I got a portable touchpad a few years ago - cllaed Glidepoint. Made by Cirque.

Glide

It connectes to a PS/2 port - or, a USB port if you have a PS2/USB adapter. They are still made. Check here:

Point

Mine sits in a drawer unused - can't compare with my Wacom pen and pad for accuracy. You can have it if you want it - email me privately and I will simply send it to you. But, the new ones look a lot better - bigger and more precise.

Well, the big ones have a 3"x2" active area... I'm wondering if that would be in any way practical to use with several monitors. I'd probably be better off sticking with the trackball.

I guess I was just thinking it would be cool to have a touch pad big enough that I could move across 3 monitors without picking up my finger and still have decent accuracy. That's probably not gonna happen.
