Is it possible to share files between computers which are both connected to the same router?

I have tried the setup of homenetwork in Windows XP, it says it's dangerous to share files b/t computers if there are both connected to the router and access the internet. Sounds like file sharing is impossible among peer computers. Is this true?

I've used a router to extend my network before. Did everything; played games, copied files between systems. It should be able to do everything a switch can do.

I've just jumped into home networking.

Yes, you can share files. Here's what I did.

Using the Network Setup Wizard, I selected "Other" and then the top selection saying the computer connected to internet via a network hub. It will bitch about it being unsecure and turn on XP's firewall. Just finish it up. Do this for all comps.

Disable XP's firewall as it sucks. If you need an internal software firewall, bet ZoneAlarm.

To share files and make it somewhat secure, go to this site. It's for XP Pro, but they also have steps for XP Home.

Urgent Need to configure Sharing??!!

Important For the purpose of the initial setting, disable all software Firewall (including WinXP native ICF); disable any active Virus scan or any other utility that might intercept Network Traffic.

The following Collection of Links might help:

If you are not concern about internal security WinXP has a fast simple method of sharing, no user permissions, and no passwords.

WinXP Pro has an additional more secure method:
