If I have 2 802.11b NIC cards can I :

1) install 1 802.11b NIC into a PC that also has an Ethernet connection to the internet (DSL).

2) install 1 802.11b NIC into a PC with no other network hardware.

3) Set up a "cross-over" style connection between the 2 802.11b NICs .

4) Configure the PC with the DSL connection to forward traffic to the Ethernet NIC, thus allowing the other PC to connect to the Internet ?

Yes, it would be no different than using two cat5 nics for the same purpose.

The "router" would still be the PC, though, the wireless card is just the connection.

can you do the same thing with 3 802.11b nics, make a sort of peer-to-peer network w/ no access point?

BTW...

THERE IS NO ACCESS POINT .

Just set them up in 802.11b Ad-Hoc mode and you're set.

Would this work with 3 NICs ( 2 PCS with 1 802.11b each talking to 1 PC with 802.11b NIC and an Ethernet connection to the NET) ?? I am guessing NOT....

Could it work in this scenario ?

1) 1 PC with 802.11b NIC

2) 1 PC with 802.11b NIC + 1 Ethernet NIC

3) 1 Firewall/Gateway with 2 Ethernet NICs ( 1 NIC connects to Switch, 1 NIC Connects to DSL)

Can PC 1 and PC 2 be setup with an Ad-Hoc network, then have PC 2 forward the Wireless traffic to PC 3 who takes them all out to the internet ?
