Use 2 gigs of DDR from X2 build (going Conroe) in I-Ram setup

Well I'll have 2 gigs of really nice Mushkin memory from my current build once I go conroe.

I was thinking of selling it, but why not get This Gigabyte I-Ram and throw the 2 gigs in there, and then buy 2 more gigs a little later one? That would give me enough initially to put a game like BF2 on it, and then later on, enough to put my OS and one game. Game like Oblivion, HL2, etc load fast enough already but BF2 is a b*tch to load

Any reason not to do this since I'll already have the memory ?

Hmmm... actually I just read a review of this and apparently you cannot use ram with thicker heatspreaders if you want to populate all 4 slots... that's no good.

The other thing I was thinking about doing once I saved up the money was adding 2 more raptor 74's for a 4 disc RAID 0 array, which is supposedly pretty damned fast

the iRAMs are much much faster. However, like you said, you can't use the the heatspreaders and ontop of that, you can't touch sata2. I'm waiting for a new revision of the iRAM before going ahead with it. Oh yeah, and also you'll end up having to do nightly or even more frequent backups, as i've heard iRAM has a nasty habit of erasing all the data on the disks =p.

Maybe you could try remove the heatspreaders (if possible) since that RAM disk only runs the memory sticks at a slow speed anyway. I think it was DDR200 or DDR266 speeds.

yeah, jones377 is right, they run at low speeds. You shouldn't remove heatspreaders though, I know with some sticks the die has a tendancy to come off with the heat spreader =p.

Yeap.. its really tight.. I actually bought some cheap value ram from corsair and mixed it in with my crucial pc3200.. runs great.. 0 problems... I even mixed it with pc2100 1gb... I think it can use pc1600 (100 mhz)

Heat spreader are too tight, also 2 cards next to each other are also too tight.. the memory rubs against the back of the card

I have not lost any data on my iram since april.. I was pretty much one of the first to buy them here and put them in raid 0.. anyway you can ghost clone your irams.. 8gb in less than 2 min... when i go on vacation, i clone them.. cuz i turn off power in case of storm

heres my iram setup
