USB2 Problem

I have a Canon D1250U2 USB2 scanner, & my motherboard (MSI KT3V, with built-in USB2 controller) does not recognise the presence of it.
The USB controller initially recognised the scanner correctly, that was before I installed the USB2 controller drivers. When I reached the final stages of installing the USB2 driver, a dialog box popped up, & it was the pc detected the connection of the scanner & asked me for the scanner's drivers. I didn't install the scanner's drivers then, instead I continued the installation of the USB2 controller driver & proceeded to reboot. After rebooting, the pc does not detect the presence of the Canon scanner, & the dialog box asking for the scanner's drivers never popped up again. I tried uninstalling & reinstalling the controller drivers, installing another Adaptec USB2 card, unplugging & repluging, everything, but to no avail. It is really frustrating as I cannot use the scanner now, the scanner app cannot communicate with the scanner. I would be grateful if anyone can help out here, as the scanner was operating normally before I swapped out the mobo (previous mobo was MSI KT3 Ultra, with an Adaptec USB2 card). I must also say that Canon's drivers have conflicts with Logitech's webcam software, which needed to be uninstalled before the Canon drivers can be installed sucessfully.
Apart from the scanner, all other USB peripherals are currently operating correctly & normally. I'm using WinXP Pro.

TIA

I had a similar problem with a USB 2.0 card, though not from the same manufacturer: when I installed the USB 2.0 drivers that came with the card, neither my Canon scanner nor my HP printer were recognized. After removing the drivers that came with the USB 2.0 card, I let XP install the native USB 2.0 drivers that are built in to XP Service Pack 1 (SP1). These drivers work just fine.

So try the SP1 USB 2.0 driver instead of the one that came with your USB card. If you use the SP1 USB 2.0 driver, there is one thing to note: in Device Manager, the built in XP USB 2.0 driver will not show the USB controller as USB 2.0, but will show the controller as Enhanced USB. I was concerned that perhaps I was not getting USB 2.0 support, so I went to into Microsofts's Knowledgebase, and confirmed that Enhanced USB is the name Microsoft uses for USB 2.0.

Thanks! I shall try that in teh morning.
It is rather strange that it works, to a certain degree, under the previous config (WinXP Pro, KT3 Ultra+Adaptec USB2 card), yet it doesn't work at all with the new components.

It doesn't work even after I installed MS's driver. Do u think there may be an incompatibility between the Canon & VIA's chipset?

I've got the Canon scanner model just under yours, and I have no problems with the scanner drivers (same as yours) and the VIA implementation of USB 2.0. The fact that it was seen before you loaded the USB 2.0 drivers seems to indicate that the scanner was found using USB 1.1 support, but not USB 2.0. Reload your USB 2.0 drivers, then try the following:

(1) Check your USB BIOS settings. My BIOS has separate settings for enabling USB 1.1 and USB 2.0. Make sure both are enabled.

You may have already done the following, but if not:

(2) disconnect your scanner, then reboot. After XP loads, replug the scanner in and see if XP finds it and asks for the driver. If not, try using the Add New Hardware wizard to see if XP finds the scanner. If XP can't find the scanner under Add New Hardware, then the USB port may have a problem.

(3) follow this link to Canon tech support and see if any of this helps:

http://www.usa.canon.com/html/conCp...em=6632&qc=true&qcdetail=true&faq=false#ques0

If none of this works, I'm out of quick fixes.

I have tried all the above (bar BIOS settings), but each attempt was unsuccessful. I think USB port failure can be discounted, as the ports recognise other USB devices (albeit USB1.1). I have also tried installing an Adaptec USB2 PCI card, again it wouldn't recognise the Canon.
It is strange as after the initial USB2 driver installation, the scanner was recognised immediately before rebooting (USB1.1 drivers were already installed & running at that time), but after rebooting it wouldn't recognise at all.
