USB2 on SIS645DX chipset mobo WinXP crash

A couple of months ago I wanted to add one of the new Yamaha USB2 burners to my MSI 645DX-LRU motherboard. But it
didn't work out well and I got coasters all the time - only very few CD's actually managed to burn, regardless of the burn
speed I tried. And if I tried playing an audio CD with Windows Mediaplayer, WMP would crash after a couple of seconds.

I now wanted to add an USB2/Firewire HD-adaptor, and as soon as the drivers are installed (XP again, SP1), Windows
does a spontaneous reboot. I have tried adding the SIS USB registry fix and what-not, but still no luck.

Anyone has a solution, other than the one I have been thinking about: Reinstall Windows?

check connection (unplug the replug conncs)
if still, reinstall windows (like your idea),
if it still crash out, it might be hardware incompatibility.
check your mobo site
