been trying for a year to get this to work in win xp, bought a dell server all usb2 I was so frustrated, but won't work either

have a couple of bytec external me-720u2, and a "Best Connectivity" case from Frys I bought yesterday...

nothing will make them work, the Best Connectivity doesn't even show up, the Bytecs show up but with error code 10

I have tried every fix I can find, from microsoft, drivers from Bytec, Intel, etc.

I am way beyond aggravated with this crap, wouldn't work on my other computer I had before either

yes, worked when I first got it on my old pc just over a year ago- I think it is SP1 for XP that does it, but downloaded the fix, etc., didn't work

I have a Bytec enclosure, Win XP with SP1 and all work fine together. I?m sure you have tried a different USB device in your port??

In my 8 usb2 ports? yes, usb mouse, joystick etc... it's a dell 400sc, designed to be usb2 dependent

error code 10
device would not start..had that on my older USB 2.0 external enclosure..tried other opticals/hds on it all same result..put new 2.0 enclosure with opticals/hds..all worked..tossed old 2.0 in garbage..🙁

stupid drive!!!

Ok, I just picked up an USB 2.0 External HDD enclosure (IOGEAR) and it sometimes works... how about rephrasing that, it rarely works on my laptop, but usually works on my desktop (but not always). I'm getting the "error code 10" message too and am using WinXP(SP2) on both systems. I'm under the impression that WinXP has serious issues. Any suggestions on what I should try? Thanks in advance.

i bought a plumax from newegg about a month ago and it has worked over all four xp computers i have. a dell optiplex at work, two laptops, and the home desktop. without sp1, the enclosure and 2.0 card readers would operate at 1.1 on my desktop until reinstalled with sp1, but all the other sp1 machines used 2.0 fine. plug in and power up is truly all there was to it. tried an older 20gb hard drive and a lite-on burner

have you tried any other 2.0 device? at least you can isolate the problem between the enclosure or the system/windows

I got my drive working just the other day. I wrapped the drive in saran wrap before putting it in the enclosure and that did the trick. It seems the drive was grounding on the case
