if i purchase a usb2.0 card will that improve my old usb equipment?

i recently purchased the brother 1650 printer and upgrading the memory to 136
i was hoping that a new usb would allow me to dump info to the printer faster

Nope. a usb 1.0 or 1.1 item will not run any faster.

Has to be USB 2.0 compatable to take advantage of the USB 2.0. Devices designed for 1.1 will perform the same.
