I have three USB ports on my case but my motherboard only has two connections. Can I simply splice one of the connections and make a third?

Well splicing would be a good quick fix, cheaper than buying a hub.... That is if it would actually work and not fry my motherboard or something. If it won't work I guess I'm stuck with the hub.

It wouldn't fry your motherboard, but it wouldn't stop that usb port from working.

What MoBo do you have? Are you sure it only has 2x USB connectors?

A hub costs $10 - $15. A splice job would not work and could damage the mobo. USB doesn't work like that.

If you don't like a hub then buy an add-on PCI slot USB card. Depending on the model that'll add 2 - 4 ports, and won't cost much more than $25 at WallyWorld.

The board has 4 rear ports and two connectors on the bottom of the board, so I don't need more pci slot ports. My main goal is to have at least 3 usb ports working on the front of my case (1 is not connected). Getting a hub is an option but i'd prefer keeping it all internal. The model # on the board is A7V8X-X.

Most USB 2.0 addin cards will have a internal connection for your
front port...............
