I have the VNF3-250 and installed with Windows XP SP2. But Windows can only recognize the usb ports as standard usb(usb1.1). Are the usb ports on the VNF3-250 USB2.0? And How to enable it?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Forums :) Try going into Device Manager and updating the driver, and let it try Windows Update as the source.

I tried to update the driver from Device Manager and enabled the Windows Update. The Update Wizard returns the following message:"The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you currently have installed".

It seems Windows thinks the USB ports are usb1.1 not usb2.0.

To back up a minute, how did you determine that it's treating them as 1.1 and not 2.0? Is that what Windows is telling you when you plug a 2.0 device in, or is it by another indication? If you see the word "Enhanced" in Device Manager's description, that does mean 2.0 as well.

Aside from a driver issue, if the cables that connect a case's front USB ports to the motherboard are not USB 2.0-compliant, then that could cause it to downshift to 1.1 mode too. If you're using the cables and outlets that came with the motherboard, or if your case's cabling is definitely USB 2.0-compliant, then you can disregard that possibility.

So if it's truly a driver issue, next thing you can do is go to Device Manager and simply do an Uninstall of the USB stuff, then reboot and let Windows re-discover it, and see if it's now Enhanced or 2.0 in Device Manager afterwards.

The Device Manager display it as "Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller" instead of "Enhanced". And every time I connect a usb2.0 device to the machine, Windows shows a message which says HiSpeed device connected to low speed port or something like that.

Since I'm using one of the ports on the back of the machine, the cable should not be the problem. I'll try to uninstall the driver and reinstall it again.

Thanks for your advice.

I tried to uninstall the driver of the USB Controller and reinstall it again. I also tried to install the newest Nvidia All-in-one driver. It's still usb1.1. I double checked that setting for usb in BIOS is usb1.1+2.0. What you guys can see under USB controlles from the Device Manager? Mine is like this:

Universal Serial Bus controllers
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

My device is the LinkSys Wireless-G USB network adapter. It's definitely USB2.0. I also tried my other USB 2.0 stuff. Each time I plug it into the motherboard, WinXP gives me the message which says HiSpeed device connected to lowSpeed USB port. And under the device manager, there is no "Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller". There should be one if the ports are USB 2.0.

Did you ever resolve this? I built a system for my brother-in-law with the same motherboard and figured I was golden.

Set the system up at his home and plugged in his USB 2.0 scanner and got the same messages you did.

I pretty much repeated all you did with no luck.

Did a search and came up with your thread here.

If you look in the BIOS, is there any option to choose between USB 2.0 Hi-Speed and USB 2.0 Full-Speed? Hi-Speed is the real deal, choose that if the option exists and it wasn't at Hi-Speed already.

Finally I got it to work by installing one program called U2.exe under the fold USB2.0 in the CD coming with the motherboard. The manual says to install this driver only if you are using Windws ME. I just tried it before I decide to buy a USB2.0 PCI card. And it works. I guess the manual sucks.
