I'm getting a Nintendo DS with Mario Kart for Christmas! Merry Christmas, Girlfrienda Claus! If she is nice to me I might let her burrow it and play Nintendogs or Animal Crossing.

I've never had a reason to use wifi before but now I need one to play my NDS online. All rooms in my apartment are wired for DSL so I have no need to switch to a wifi router. Nintendo sells a USB wifi adaptor but I was wondering if anyone could suggest a better one that would work with the DS and in case I ever get something else I need wifi for.

Does anyone know if the one Nintendo sells would work with PDAs and Laptops?

I have no idea, but this sounds very DS specific. There has to be a place out there the reviews DS networking.

I think that website is refering to the proprietary wireless connection that the DS uses for local multiplayer. For online play, any 802.11B WiFi connection should work, assuming the game supports WiFi.

Personally, I would recommend you buy a wireless router. Routers generally make network easier, and more importantly, you would have to turn on your computer to play your DS online. Plus, if you ever get a laptop or some other wireless enabled device, having a router will be a big benefit.

I can't really give you any personal recommendations as the only router I've used the wireless on (intensively that is, I've played with my friends' router, but haven't really seen how well their wireless connections worked) is my Microsoft MN-500. I think it's a pretty good router and the wifi works well for me, but you won't find it in stores anymore, Microsoft discontinued their networking products a few years ago.

If you still want to get a wireless USB adaptor, I would just pick up a wireless adaptor that's cheap and has good reviews. You don't really need to buy the Nintendo adaptor.
