I have an old Logitech USB2.0 Webcam. Drivers and supporting software are/were loaded. It was plugged into the USB2.0 hub in my old Dell monitor and worked great.

I upgraded the monitor to a new model with a built-in USB3.0 hub. That's all I changed. Now the webcam will work with the Logitech webcam software, but in Skype I cannot get a picture to come up. Skype correctly identifies my camera, but can't seem to access it. I uninstalled the Logitech webcam software (left the driver package) and that did not help.

Being that the only thing that changed was the hardware, I put the thread here...but it may belong in Software. Any ideas on the issue? Before I go buy another webcam which may or may not work, I'd like to see if anyone's got any suggestions.

Plug it into a USB2 port? I guess whatever is easier is the best solution - install new webcam of find a way to connect via USB2.

Thanks, Binky. I may have to do just that; find a USB2.0 extension cable (I think I have one somewhere) and run the cable to the back of the PC.

For grins, I uninstalled the Logitech drivers and rebooted. Now the camera works in Skype, but I have no control over zoom or pan/tilt. I've got this wide angle view that makes it look like I'm 8 feet away from the camera. /facepalm

It seems to be some kind of 3-way incompatibility b/t the USB3.0 hub built into the monitor, the Logitech drivers and Skype.

I don't Skype all that often, but when I do it's for work and they need to be able to see me. Thanks for any other suggestions anyone throws this way.

Dunno if it helps, but we had the exact same issue with a Logitech webcam in one of our conference rooms (minus the usb 3.0). Out of nowhere it worked great with the Logitech software, but Skype/GoToMeeting would detect the cam and simply display a black feed with no video.

The fix was to completely uninstall Skype/GoToMeeting, completely uninstall the Logitech software and disconnect the camera, reboot, reinstall webcam, reinstall Skype/GoToMeeting.

Was a pain in the butt, but I just wrote it off as mediocre webcam drivers not properly handing off the camera feed to individual applications.
