MY GF bought some from Woot or something, I laughed when she showed them to me and told me what they were. But after trying them they are pure win. My feet are cold as hell right now and I don't want to wait for an online order. I'm thinking MAYBE some store would carry these I could drive to. I called Fry's and the 1st person was confused about what I wanted, and the 2nd put me on hold to go check and I guess never came back (I hung up)

Whoever invented these are a genius, I would also go for a varation I could plug into an outlet. I'm tired of cold feet and I'm tired of always wearing shoes and socks.

That's what I thought, and that's exactly why I laughed, but I put them on and plugged them in. Now I didn't have any way to measure what temp they were, but my feet were wonderfully warm. So I Googled for a review right now to research this. And according to the reviewer the max temperature was 101.5 which is very nice. When my feets are freezing shoes & socks at best just take some of the cold away. 101.5 would be total win for my feet.

I've wondered this many many times, with all the USB devices out there..

I guess it's more like, the slippers prevent most heat loss, then actually give you ~2W of heat? Probably is pretty noticeable...

Maybe they don't even do anything.

How terrible, though? How many USB ports would you rip out before you remembered that you couldn't just get up and walk away from your computer?

I got my wife some USB Gloves a year or two ago because she always has cold hands. Never seen them in a store though. Could try Spencer gifts or some place like that.

Grab a 2.5W power resistor and feel how hot it gets! Low watt density for the win! :)

These (slippers) work because they have insulation and are around your feet. It does not take much power to take off the chill. I would NOT expect them to turn blue feet toasty warm, however.

LOL at ripping out USB ports. The inline cords should have a break away connector that prevents this. It's another instance of Murphy's law - if the bottom file cabinet drawer is opened the top one will roll open. The telephone rings and you jump up smacking your head into the bottom of the top drawer!
