Okay, so I'm trying to troubleshoot the USB on my Hewlett Packard. I've installed both Windows 2000 and Windows XP on it and both of them failed to have the USB ports detect a device. I tried removing it via safe mode and reinstalling but nothing worked. I switched it to a standard HCD PCI to USB driver but that didn't work. I also turned off the power saving mode for the USB, but that failed to work also.
So now thinking that these USB ports are dead, I decide to humor myself and use the recovery CD that came with it. To my surprise, the SIS 7001 USB controller works under Windows 98. WTF gives? I would have thought that if it worked in Windows 98, that it'd sure as hell work in Windows 2000/XP.
Could it possibly be that my BIOS isn't set right for the OS (it's set for Windows 98/Windows NT 5.0... should it be "Other")?
