USB troubles; only in OS

Heya,

So I've been tinkering with an old motherboard, an M2NSLI with a Brisbane dualcore and some DDR2 memory. It works great. I use a USB keyboard and mouse. It works perfectly fine. I plug them into other computers and they function just fine. But on this M2NSLI, it's not so good after I install an OS. In BIOS, the keyboard works flawless. But the moment I try to boot Ubuntu or Win XP or even Win 7, it goes haywire. In the installers and after the install, the keyboard hangs for a few seconds off and on, and repeats keys. The mouse does the same thing. It works for a second then hangs for a while then works for a second then hangs for a while. It does this in Ubuntu, XP and Win 7. So it works fine in BIOS, so USB works fine and the keyboard works. It's something in the operating systems. This is where I'm at a loss. Why is it so non-functional in both Linux and Windows.

I'm sure the board is actually fine and the keyboard/mouse is fine. So what is it about these operating systems that the moment I install them, all this lovely `fine' stops being fine.

Any ideas?

Very best,

Thats screwed up. Only thing i can think of is try diff USB ports on the mobo, and try them from a powered USB hub if possible. I have had problems in the past with USB devices that vanished the second i plugged them into a powered hub.

Heya,

Tried all the USB ports. Tried different USB keyboards & mice. I've used them all on other motherboards to compare. I've narrowed it down to just all the USB of the M2NSLI. They work fine in BIOS as mentioned. But something is happening the moment an OS is installed. It's like the drivers that load with the OS for all the USB is off or something. I've never had this issue with this board. If it were damaged, I would see the issue even in BIOS. But the issue only occurs the moment an OS loads its GUI. Makes me wonder if the display adapter and the USB are conflicting or something. So I moved the display card to another slot. No changes. I even used USB->PS2 adapters to just go analog and it just powers them but doesn't take any input from the devices. It's very strange.

Very best,
