I recently upgraded my machine from XP to Vista.
Its an AMD FX 55 machine with about 2g ram and has an MSI K8 motherboard (socket 939)

Since my upgrade I see that the rate of transfer of files from usb to my machine and vice versa is very slow. When I do a file transfer, I see it in a range between 127Kbytes/Sec to 447Kbytes per second. Isnt the transfer rate supposed to be around 400Mbytes/per sec?

I do believe its all USB 2.0. I have a usb 2.0 hub where I connect all my peripherals.

I dont know what happened with the upgrade. Here is a link to an image that shows USB controllers on my machine. May be you can find out whats going on.

Any leads are appreciated.

sounds like the USB is working at 1.0 speeds instead of 2.0. In my mobo, i had to manually select the "standard enhanced PCI to host controller" and choose the driver that came on the disk. otherwise, it would only work at 1.0 speeds. thus, i assume the problem is in the drivers.

You need to update your chipset drivers. Go to your motherboard manufacturer's website and try to find Vista-compatible drivers.

I have a MSI K8 Neo2 (Nvidia nForce 3 Ultra chipset). Its a socket 939.

Looks like they havent updated the drivers for Vista. I even went to nvidia's website.

Any place else I can try or can I try doing something else?
