USB to USB mini - what is max length

Does length matter much?
My scanner uses a USB to USB mini cable.
Monoprice has one 15' long.
15ft USB 2.0 A Male to MINI-B 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable
If that is nto long enough, do they make longer ones anywhere?
Is that a max length?

The USB spec is 15' max. Something about signal interference on longer cables.

Monoprice sells "repeaters" (extension cables with a single port hub at the end.)

The repeater adds cost though - I've seen up to 30' USB cables in web searches, and they supposedly work, but... yeah, I'd avoid.

15 feet / 5 m is the maximum length for USB signal cables.

I've tried splicing cables together with connectors to go over that length. Basically, as soon as you go a relevant amount over that length, the connection doesn't work, or works very erratically with loads of errors.

If you need to go more than the maximum length, you will need to put a powered hub at the half-way point.
