USB to Serial...

A friend has a Toshiba e740 PDA w/ USB cradle. There exists no Toshiba branded USB to serial adapter, nor do they offer a serial cradle. She has a Windows NT laptop from work... =/ They aren't upgrading. I have seen the generic cables that claim to accomplish this... but I wanted to ask here 1st before I started tinkering.

A Female USB to a Male DB9... that works? Improbable?

The software for syncing or whatever probably won't work without it detected as a USB device.

All those seem to be intended to let you connect some other serial device to the USB port of the e740, not to get a PC to detect it on a serial port and work properly.

Even if you can find an adapter, I don't think it will work. If the ol' noodle is working correctly here, I don't believe that NT 4 had support for USB in it.

That's kinda the point. He wants an adapter so that NT sees it as a device on the serial port, not a USB device.
