USB to Serial. Any reason there would be compatibility issues?

at the moment we have some laptops in the field with PCMCIA to serial cards that are used for factory industrial stuff (i have no idea what software they use).

Do you see any reason why a USB to serial would cause problems replacing a PCMCIA to serial?? (the USB ones are cheaper, that's why I ask).

I dont think it would cause problems, except one thing i found.when using a USB/serial adapter, I could only run the printer at 9600 BAUD, which was not a huge deal, as the printouts weren't big or anything, but it wras definitely slower than using a higher baud rate.

the serial printer works fine though using the adapter. Don't ask me why the baud rate has to be 9600, but it's the only way it'll actually work without giving a communcation error.

hope that helps you,

You need a driver for a USB to serial converter.
I got one and I had to search and find and download the right driver for it. The driver that came with the converter did not work for me!
So, before buying a bunch, you may want to get one and make sure that it works on all your computer models.
