USB to PS/2 keyboard adapter?

I have a USB keyboard that I wanted to hook up to a simple IOGear 2-port KVM switch I have. The switch only has PS/2 ports, though. I've got a Logitech mouse that is plugged in via a USB to PS/2 adapter that came with the mouse. That works fine (well, if I remember right the Logitech software didn't work right, but I don't use that anyway), but the basic mouse functions work as well do all the buttons.

I found an extra USB to PS/2 adapter that came with another mouse, and thought I could hook up the keyboard the same way. But that doesn't work. Are the adapters that come with most mice mouse specific or something? Is there something (cheap) like that out there for keyboard, or should I look at getting a new KVM switch, this one using USB ports. Are there KVM switches out there that use both USB and PS/2 that aren't super expensive? Thanks for any help!

I think there are some adapters that don't work with keyboards but do with mice. There might also just be some issue with the keyboard communicating through any adapter on the KVM. You could try swapping the two adapters to see if maybe the other one works. I don't have a lot of experience with them myself but I know they can be fiddly.

Here's a cheap just USB KVM, although it uses its own brand proprietary cable for the connection to the 2 PCs with the USB and video in a single connector, which seems to be common, so don't lose any cables. This one has both USB and PS2, and uses standard cables for everything.

Hah, it's a colloquial spelling of our intramural floor hockey team from the college days. We're aware of it's misspelling 🙂

Oh, and thanks for the info btw. Pretty much confirms what I thought.....bah! Guess I'll be checking out the newegg KVM switches...
