USB to Parallel Converter Cable

Hi,
I need to order one of these cables so I can use my printer on this new computer.

Couple questions. Since my computer has USB 2.0 .. do I need a special cable?

If not wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a canverter plug or does the cable have to be special?

Thanks
Cowboy

Most any one will do unless you have an Alps subdye Printer or specialty Printer where the Manufacture specifies that it will only work with a certain brand (most don't).

It's not a converter plug. It's an actual USB device, namely a USB printer port controller. And true, some of the more odd printer drivers don't like their hardware not being on an actual legacy printer port. Most won't care, and run their printer through USB-parallel just as well. YMMV.

Some of those USB to Parallel won't do the bidirectional commo thing very well - so don't just get the cheapest you can find...

an even better aproach if you are using an old ieee 1284 based printer is to go out and get an ethernet print server. Then it will be networked so all of your pc's could use the same printer. It also avoids worrying about adapters.
