usb to ide plug and play

I have xp with usb 1 and 2 ports and am trying to connect a wd 3.5 internal drive as a removable media. I have tried all the jumper positions and I cannot get windows to recognize the drive. It shows up in the device manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers as an unknown device. Anybody have ideas how to force windows to see it for what it is?
 
try getting drivers? often times the manufacturer will have a driver incase you switch it out to a external inclosure, i have seen it before just look around
