USB to IDE adaptor?

Say I've got a computer that can't boot from USB ... is there an adaptor that I can plug a thumb drive into that would appear as an IDE device to the computer?

It's fairly easy to adapt from a specialized interface (IDE) to a generalized one (USB) - that's why you see so many IDE or SATA to USB adapber cables and external housings. It's not so easy the other way around, so I doubt you'll find such.

If your Mobo is not too old, it should recognize the USB as a device in Bios and boot from it. If it does not recognize the drive then it would recognize the hard drive attached to it! Other words, try booting from a thumb drive.
