Has anyone tried hooking up a USB printer to a USB to ethernet adapter so you can use it as a shared network printer? Dedicated print server prices are as high as a printer itself!:(

You can't directly connect 2 USB devices without a USB root hub (computer) in the mix.

Note how you must load drivers on the host system for the USB to Ethernet adapter to work

No way can you do this. The USB ethernet adapter only connects to the computer. It needs the power provided by the internal usb hub and also the necessary drivers for it to run....two things that the printer cannot provide. Also, the USB printer has a usb B type connector, and the usb ethernet uses and A/B cable, with the B connector going into the adapter, and the A connector going into the computer or hub. There is no way for you to connect the male A connector from the ethernet adapter to the female B connector of the printer.

Hopefully I got the connectors right...I'm writing this as A = rectangular connector, B = square connector

Yeah, you can't do it because the printer wouldn't know how to use the usb ethernet adapter. You have to connect the usb printer to a computer which has a network connection. Sorry.

I doubt that an USB NIC would work but I just set up some HP LaserJet 1200N printers and the print server that they came with connected via the USB port on the printers. I am not sure if they can be purchased seperately but it is work a look.
