usb tethering wont work

Hello i have an lg stylo 2 running android 6.0.1 and when i try to plug it into my computer for a file transfer it will not allow me to switch to media transfer protocol. the pop up wont even show up. i have already gone into developer options and activated usb debugging and even manually switched to media transfer protocol and still have not been successful. when phone is restarted it automaticlly switches back to charge only and usb debug turned off. would anyone be able to help me fix this problem

I had the same problem on a couple of pcs. I followed this, and it took care of the issue on both.
