This is my trusty usb/sata adapter. I used to to save hundreds or thousands of laptop drives, cloning, etc, recovery. I have a 1.8 usata adapter to go with it and it works great.

This was actually pulled out of a broken wd passport drive and I use it daily at work, etc. because its bare, I'm afraid one day I will lose it or crack it. Is there sometime similar, i do have those usb dongle thingy but they're much bulkier or requires power, etc. What pocket usb adapters are you guys using

I found this bulky thing off ebay, http://www.ebay.com/itm/190603416759

I guess worst-case, Ill crack another wd passport drive open

I have a few different ones:

2x Vantec CB-ISATAU2 (USB2 Adapter)
Vantec CB-ISATAU3-6 (USB3 Adapter)
Vantec NST-D300S3 (Dock)
Vantec NST-D300S3-BK (Dock)
Apricorn ASW-USB-25 ("Powerless" USB2 Adapter)

I actually really like the USB2 one that I listed first. It's kind of silly, but the reason why is because of the standard power adapter that comes with it. It uses a normal power plug that you would use with a PC, which makes it handy if you misplace the power cord. I use those power cables when I use eSATA.

I also rather like my HDD docks when it comes to attaching a device to specific computers.

I have those vantec, the usb2 and the dock. I use them at home, but the vantec cb-isatau2, i had problems where the drive wouldn't come up but works for the wd.

Like the apricorn, its like what I got but covered up and protected.. thanks.. that one should work nicely
