USB Requirments

I have an old Pentium 166 system and would like to add a USB card if possible. What is the requiremnts for adding a USB card will want to use it for an external CD-RW drive. The CD-RW won't be used on this computer too much but newer pc should fail it will allow me to restore data files and still work albeit slow. Will eventually purchace a better PC but not yet.

you shouldn't need an additional hardware to add a PCI USB card. Just make sure you have a free slot, and an operating system that supports it (Win98se and later). USB 1.1's requirements in terms of hardware resources are pretty minimal.

The PC has W98se installed and an open PCI slot (not sure about the version). From checking I've done it does sound like USB 1.1 will work but 2.0 will not can anyone help here also.
