usb recognized as 1.1 instead of 2.0

hi,

on the motherboard instructions it says it supports usb 2.0 but when i plug in a device it says it can preform faster if plugged into a usb 2.0 slot. the usb slots on the motherboard are fine but the ones that are plugged into the motherboard that lead to the front of the case are 1.1

are there any settings etc that i can use to change them to 2.0 because it supports it
