Well then, you're not much of a small-battery consumer. AAs are used in most wireless keyboards and mice, and many remotes (including the remote to my receiver, which takes 4 AAs). I also use AAs in my camera's flash.

If you had asked me which was wider, a AA battery or a USB socket, I would definitely have said the USB socket was wider. I guess I was wrong.

How do YOU power your remote control and wireless mouse/keyboard?

Most of mine use AAs.
Is being an ass fun? I was thinking about trying it out and want an expert's opinion.

Hey those batteries can be used on my mouse, awesome. Kind of weird how more computer parts are put into the mouse.

The capacity is really low considering that rechargeable NiMH batteries are up to 2800mAh now. 1300mAh isn't that much, assuming the charger is good enough to charge it to max capacity. It also takes a while to recharge. Assuming those 2 factors aren't important to you, then it's a cool battery.

Yeah but space is taken up with things like the USB connector and the recharging stuff inside, so you're never going to get equal capacity to a regular rechargable battery.

I'm sure that I have seen that before.
When I opened this thread, I thought that's what it was.

Edit: Buy.com

Yeah, really. A 5V source would be able to charge 2 cells in series just fine.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Never would have guessed a USB A connector would fit inside a AA.

I just did a simple test by putting the two together (placed a usb plug in front of a AA battery for all you smart people) and they are almost exactly the same width (the usb plug is ever so slightly narrower)...interesting.

I dunno I remember seeing 600mah nimh batteries and now they are up to 2800... 1300 seems good enough for a remote. $24 though... if you are near a USB port, other than a laptop, you are most likely near an electric outlet. Id go for 4 batteries with a battery charger/conditioner before I get a USB battery.

USB is quickly becoming the "Because we can" bus. Lots of useless stuff plugs into it now. And it's funny, because serial ports are becoming ever-more popular for custom work - and they were supposed to die YEARS ago.

I just thought about this... the shear design of it limits most people to either

1. plug them it into two different locations (cant fit into a lot of top-bottom or side-by-side) usb port)
2. plug one in at a time
3. buy usb extentions.

Dont know why I analyzed it that much but... cool idea though. USB innovations are fun and good (1 week of fun) toys plus it can impress friends with your geekdom.
