What makes a USB device, my Nike MP3 player in particular, want to install drivers when I plug it in, when I already have in the past. I'm pretty sure I'm using the same port I have in the past. I'm not using a hub. And worse, I can't get the drivers installed 'again' so I can't access the player.

May b due to corrupt driver files.

Try uninstalling and re installing the device from device manager with driver installation.

it may work.

Had that happen just the other day to a client's system. No USB memory sticks or USB HDDs would work. I'd get prompted for drivers it couldn't find it.

Can't remember the exact fix but I think it was a corrupt or missing INF file or registry entry. I found it by doing some google searches.

Easy fix is to use system restore to go back to a save point prior to the problem occuring.

Some devices require you to install the software/drivers BEFORE ever hot plugging the device.
