USB problems

I recently bought a USB mouse and it causes my system to boot slowly, VERY slowly. Everything from the memory check to booting windows seems to takes about 20+ times longer than usual. After it boots into windows, activity seems normal again. When I remove the mouse I don't run into these problems. If I disconnect the mouse DURING the boot process, the speed immediately picks up. I have a USB keyboard too, could the combination of the two be causing a problem?

edit:
ok... discovered it boots fine with just the mouse or just the keyboard, not with both... why am I having problems with 2 USB devices? i am running a 440bx chipset board, could that be a problem?

if you are using ME disable the ps2 mouse in control pannel ME is that thick it keeps looking for the mouse on ps2 port W2K is much better at this

i'm using windows 2000 and the problem actually takes place even before the OS begins to load... it starts happening as early as the memory check during the bios. help? anyone?
