USB Problems

My system:

Intel Core i7 2600k @ 4.0Ghz
Asus Maximus IV Extreme Z
EVGA GTX 560 Ti 2GB Edition
Corsair H80 Cooling
16GB Corsair Dominator RAM @ 1800Mhz
Crucial 60GB SSD
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD
OCZ Fatal1ty 750W Modular PSU
Logitech G15
Logitech G13
SteelSeries Sensei
Razer Carcharias jacked into a Creative Alpha Tatic USB Sound Processor
WD External 1TB USB HDD
LG Blu Ray DDrive
CoolerMaster Stormtrooper case

The reason I listed EVERYTHING instead of the basics is because my USB problem may be a power issue. It's my best guess anyways. The problem is the USB ports on my case seemingly go out at random. The front ports on the case aren't working at all, and they are connected to the mobo correctly. The back ports just seem to go out, in no order and at random times. I have to physically switch my USB devices around to different ports until they all work again. It seems the mouse is the most frequent thing to fail. Currently my external HD wont work no matter what port I plug it into. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

I've heard of some cases that have shipped with faulty front usb ports on them. By having them plugged into the motherboard, it may be affecting the rear usb ports as well. Try unplugging the front usb ports from the motherboard and see how the rear ports work. If they work fine, then you have a faulty front usb circuit board.

For best results and reliability, get a p'owered hub. Have it be the only thing connected to your mobo ports. All devices then connect to it.

So I unplugged the front ports from the Mobo and that seemed to solve the problem... Until today when windows wouldn't recognize my mouse. I switched the USB plug with another on the back of the case and it started working again.

Is there a chance that if I do that, the a port on the mobo can still malfunction and cause the powered hub problems?

Generally most USB problems relate to power. The powered hub relieves the on board port of that problem. With a good hub, youonly need to use one USB port on your main system.

Soon as I can get my hands on one, I'll give that a shot. Thanks again.

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to get my hands on a powered USB hub yet, but now the initial problem is much worse. Again I was doing nothing out of the ordinary, everything was working fine, I was taking a break away from the computer to watch a movie, I came back, and the mouse wasn't working again. So I unplugged my USB devices and plugged them into different slots as I've been having to do, but now instead of that temporarily fixing the problem, no matter what I do, switching ports, restarting, the whole nine, none of my USB ports work. My mouse, keyboard and gamepad will light up, but will not respond.... Since I can't get my hands on a powered hub atm, any other ideas, given this new problem?

EDIT: I reset one of my BIOS profiles to stock and my mouse and keyboard work in the stock bios environment, not sure what that means yet, but I will update the situation as it happens.

Edit 2: After the BIOS reset, periph's work again, but it's bak to the original problem, sometimes everything works, and at random, random things go out. I also discovered that even though I unplugged the USB 3.0 Connector for the front panel, I did not unplug the USB 2.0 Conector. I did during this last round of troubleshooting and it seemed to have to no effect. Same problem still persists.

EDIT 3: Mouse and everything working again for now, just have to wonder for how long. I will continue to research and troubleshoot this problem.

After contacting ASUS and getting their help, I've found that I have a faulty USB controller on the Mobo, so I have to RMA it. :( Ty for the help guys.
