Hello to all my one stop forums for all my computer questions!

First, my computer specs.

Processor: AMD Athlon II x4 635
Mobo: GA-MA790GP-UD4H
Memory: 4GB DDR2
Radeon HD 4870 1GB
Generic 640GB HD (not sure what brand, came with the barebone)
PSU: Antec Earthwatts EA500D

I've had this basic config for over 2 years, except for the chip which I added about a year ago. Over the past 6 months or so, my USB's are not working right, both the ones directly on the mobo and the ones built into the case. At first I thought it was just that I had too much plugged in (I Had an average 8-10 things plugged in at that time, although not all was active at all times) so I disconnected some of the case USB's, and unplugged everything that wasn't essential, but it didn't help. Most of the time, I wouldn't get a message or anything, it just wouldn't work. Other times I'd get the message that there is not enough power, and the other few times it takes forever to load.

So, from the fact that it started happening 6+ months after installing the new processor and I've looked up to see if my PSU is powerful enough for my system, my only thought is that the mobo itself is going out. Of course, I haven't ran any tests or anything to be sure, which is why I'm here.

From what I've told you, do you think it is the mobo? or something else? Is there any tests I can do to be sure? Could it be something software side that's causing it, and maybe a reformat would help?

I wasn't planning on upgrading my computer till next year, but if it comes down to it I can probably afford a new mobo and ram for now, and upgrade the rest next year.

Thanks in advance!

If it's a decent MB then there should be current limit protection built-in.

At least check Device Manager to see what the status of your USB hubs/controllers is. They may have been set to "disable" to protect the system. You could try deleting the USB controllers and reboot.
