USB problems

Probably every 5 or 6 times I boot my computer up, Windows will pop up the "Found New Device Box", followed a few seconds later by the "There was a problem recognizing your USB device" (or whatever it says) box. A few seconds later, the "Found New Hardware" box comes back, and a few seconds later, the "problem" box. This keeps repeating itself ad naseum for several minutes.

The only USB devices I have plugged in are a mouse, printer, and UPS. I've had some other weird issues with my USB devices where, for example, sometimes the computer won't post if I have a scanner plugged in.

I'm using the onboard USB ports on my nForce 2 board (Epox 8rda+). Is it worth disabling those and trying a PCI USB card? Or does the problem lie elsewhere? Any guesses?

Thanks

Unplug every USB device except the mouse.
Go into device manager and delete every listing under Universal Serial Bus controller.
Reboot the computer.
You should get several found new hardware messages.
Wait until these finish.
If you don't get any errors, plug in one of the other USB devices.
Make sure no error and reboot.
Continue through each USB device.
