USB Problems with A7V

I just finished putting the finishing touches on my new system. <grin> The only problem that seems to be an issue are my USB ports. I currently have a Altec Lansing 495 speaker set that came with my three year old Dell. It uses a USB cable in addition to a regular audio connection.

My problem is as follows. After connecting the USB to the computer and the audio cable to the 1st output on my SB Live X-Gamer, I can hear sound just fine. However, USB functional software reports the speakers not to be connected. But, if I pull out the USB cable and put it back in, the speakers are fine.

Why is this happening? Is this a problem that can be solved by upgrading the bios? I currently have bios ver 1002. Should I upgrade? Can anyone shed some light on this weirdness...?

The following components were installed when problem was discovered:

Asus A7V
TBird 800
SB Live X-Gamer
PC-DVD Encore 8x/Dxr 3
Leadtek Winfast GeForce2 32MB

After fact:

3Com Ethernet Card

Well, I don't really know what could be causing your problem, but I also have ACS495's that came with an old dell system. I recently got a new mobo, cpu, etc... and I can't get my speakers to work. Did software come from dell for your speakers? I didn't get any and I only have the generic "USB audio device" driver from windows, so I am getting absolutely no sound. Did you have the speaker software on a CD or did you download it from somewhere? I got some software from altec lansing's website, but it won't install because it doesn't detect the speakers beacuse of the bad USB driver. Ugggh.

I used the drivers that came with my Dell. Although, the software simply contains the USB drivers and the software for the speakers. Without loading the speaker software and using the analog connection, I'm able to hear sound just fine but unable to tweak with the speaker settings.

As I said before, unplugging the damn USB wire and plugging it back in, gets ME to recognize the speakers. Reboot the system and it's back to the drawing board.

Anyway, if you'd like I could send you the software for the speakers. It currently resides on a CD. I don't think it's that large, so maybe I can e-mail it..? Perhaps getting the software will help you. E-mail me...

As for my problem, anyone care to share some cents.... :)

Did you reinstall windows after you built the system?
If you didn't that could be your problem right there. If you did... I have no clue. Try emailing ASUS (Although I can't seem to ever get a response from them.
Also, where's your email address? I can't find it. That would be great if you could send me those USB drivers. Mine is stevemkz@msn.com
Thanks a lot for your help.. Sorry I couldn't be much of any :p

ANYONE know how I can possibly solve this problem?

BTW, I'm currently running Windows ME.
