I had a P4B266 that I ran at ~168-172 FSB and the 1.1 USB ports would crap out. The USB 2.0 ports using the NEC chip on the board worked fine at that FSB though.

I can't vouch for 166+ FSB... but I've been running at 165 FSB on the P4B533 for a few weeks now, with 2 USB 1.1 devices, and 1 2.0 device. No problems.

Have you installed the latest USB drivers from Asus' site? Have you tried using the USB 2.0 drivers from Intels' site?

You're definitley right about the odd procedure but it's for WinXP, not Win2000. The Win2000 procedure is a straight foward driver install.

well...i just got my dazzle 6-in-1 reader..that works ok...scan still works...but need to go different route instead of the usual press one button and choose program...
the scanner is a canon fb620u...usually i just need to press the button on the scanner and a little screen pops up in window with all imaging program listed...and i just choose which one i use for scanning...
but now when i press the button on scanner, window pops up but with no program listed...:|
so i have to go to the specific programs, choose import images (whatever) route in order to scan the images
